Oil Pastels in combination with Watercolours

Based on the fact that oil is waterproof, our oil pastels combine well with watercolours to create attractive effects and patterns.

Option 1:

Creating effects with watercolours.

Create your painting as usual with our oil pastels.

When you’ve finished your work, take our watercolours and apply suitable colours in the desired areas.  Depending on how realistic or structured you want your picture to be, use more or less watercolour and apply this directly to the oil pastels.

The watercolours start to "bubble", forming interesting patterns.  Allow the colour to dry properly.

Option 2:

Combination of oil painting and watercolour painting.

Using watercolour paper, begin by using the oil pastels. Draw patterns, shapes and elements on the paper as desired.

Now, take our Colour Brush or watercolours and cover the remaining areas, so you can create really interesting mixes on paper with different media.

Drawing on dark paper

Thanks to their high colour pigment, our oil pastels are also suitable for use on coloured and darker papers.

Try it out!

A tip

If you are not confident with drawing, simply use our brightest tones for outlining and apply these quite softly. If you still want to be able to make changes, you can smooth over the lines of your sketch with your fingers and begin again.

Warning!

The colours are permanent if you get them on your clothes, so we recommend you wear old clothes when painting!

If the colour comes into contact with clothes, brush it away with a little hand brush or a firm shorthaired paint brush.
